I went to Lewes today and blew £14 on old photographs. Yes, reckless, I know, but I'm an addict. I was quite pleased with these two (above), showing the same beautiful woman in two poses (or are they two different sisters wearing the same dress?)
petrusplancius posted this on vintagephoto last year and I've been dying to track down the spot where it was taken. Well, I did it yesterday. We got a bit lost around the back of Dorking for a couple of hours before I realised that the angle of the church tower didn't match the photograph and we were in entirely the wrong part of town. Finally we stumbled out of a side street and there it presented itself. We were so excited. "Look" cried my wife, "there's the building with the chimney!"
I took this photo about 10 years ago in the Victoria and Albert Museum. I still feel a bit guilty about it (but not very) because I bullied my friend James into posing with these three renaissance busts of Christ. He really didn't want to do it. Haha. I think it offended his catholic sensibilities slightly. I have twice given him copies of this image but he has 'lost' them both times.
Ah, those were the days. When we were young, single, childless and unemployed and could go to museums on a weekday.
